In India, in June 2016, over 20 members of our Bangalore office team took part in a tree planting event for World Environment Day by putting in about 100 saplings in an empty lot directly beside our office building in Bangalore. This was the second year in a row that our office has participated in a tree planting event for World Environment Day. These events add to our other projects in India, which, in 2013, included employees at our Bangalore and Hyderabad offices donating cash, food, medicine and clothes to help victims of the floods in Uttarakhand, a state in northern India, and, in that same year, also donating funds to help provide a solar power mechanism to three underprivileged communities that didn’t have regular electric power.

As a global company with more than 30 locations, Syniverse has a tremendous opportunity to better societies around the world. Both the reach and immediacy of mobile offer an amazing range of ways for us to help connect communities of interest and foster new ways of engagement.
This capability lies at the heart of our commitment to making a positive impact on the communities where we live and work. Around the world we encourage our 2,600-plus employees to support what’s important to them in their communities.
Giving back is a part of our culture and, as our employees will tell you, is one of the most rewarding – not to mention most fun – parts of our jobs. Here is how we’re doing our part to help make a difference.
Each year, our employees around the globe contribute many hours of their own time along with thousands of dollars to enhance their communities. Locally, many of these charitable initiatives are spearheaded by our employee associations, which include a broad representation of employees at offices around the globe who are interested in contributing to their local communities.
In 2015, these efforts culminated in more than 1,900 volunteer hours and over $115,000 being contributed in support of more than 30 philanthropic activities around the globe.
Here’s a snapshot of some of these activities, along with some of our more recent efforts:
In China, in 2015, our Beijing office employee association helped give back to the community by donating supplies and volunteering time to help orphaned and seriously ill children at a foster home for children with special needs. Also in China in 2015, our Hong Kong office participated in a corporate competition to raise funds for a medical humanitarian organization, and at our Singapore office that year, a team took part in a similar corporate challenge to raise monies for a nursing home for elderly and disadvantaged people.
In the U.K., in 2015, for the fourth year in a row, Syniverse teams took part in a nationwide U.K. charity event called Swimathon, a nationwide swimming challenge to raise money for charity. One of the charities that the London office has selected to support is Marie Curie, the organization that Swimathon supports and one that provides care to more than 40,000 people with a terminal illness. The London office also had a team participate in a 100-kilometer (60-mile) bike ride for charity as part of the London to Cambridge Bike Ride. The event allows teams to solicit sponsorship donations to raise funds for a charity, and the U.K. team chose for its charity Haven House, which provides support services for children with life-limiting illnesses.
Charitable Giving Campaigns
Along with our employee association initiatives, employees are able to vote on an annual basis to choose the corporate charities that Syniverse supports as a company. In 2015, this charitable giving campaign included such organizations as the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the Humane Society, Metropolitan Ministries and United Way. This campaign is supported by a matching fund program through which the company matches individual employee donations. In addition, employees are given an incentive of extra vacation time if they donate a certain amount.
With these incentives in place, in 2015, more than 1,500 volunteer hours and $650,000 of money and resources were contributed in support of more than 40 different causes around the globe. This total includes more than $115,000 raised by our employees.
In addition, the total also includes more than $300,000 of in-kind technology services provided to support Text4Baby program. This U.S.-based education program of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition, provides pregnant women and new mothers with free text messages containing information to help them care for their health and their babies. We have been a longtime donor of resources, messaging connectivity and ongoing support to power Text4Baby, and it’s one way in which we use our specific telecommunication and technology expertise to support various nonprofits.
Corporate social responsibility has become a critical element of any successful business. Thanks to our incredibly dedicated employees, we’re pleased with what we’ve accomplished to date, but we also know there is much more that can be done in the future.
