CSR Snapshot: Singapore Office Visits Seniors’ Home

Synergy’s CSR Snapshot features some of the most recent corporate social responsibility activities that Syniverse has participated in to help make a positive impact on the communities where we live and work.

What was the activity?
On Nov. 2, a group of us from Syniverse’s Singapore office paid a visit to the Ling Kwang Home for Senior Citizens to talk, interact, and brighten the lives of the seniors who are cared for there.

What organization did the activity support?
The Ling Kwang Home for Senior Citizens, a Singapore nursing home that was established in 1983 and currently has the capacity to care for up to 350 seniors, most of them wheelchair-bound or bedridden. The facility provides a wide range of healthcare and social services for the elderly, including day care, residential care, and nursing and rehabilitation.

How many Syniverse employees participated?
Eleven Syniverse colleagues took part. The visit was organized by our Employee Association, a group responsible for leading charitable and extracurricular activities in communities where Syniverse offices are located. Each year, many Syniverse Employee Associations around the world identify charitable organizations in their local areas, and then get the input of the office’s employees to select a few charities that the office would like to support.

What did the Syniverse team do?
We spent several hours getting to know about 50 seniors and trying to brighten their day. We found out about their lives, told them about ours, and served them afternoon tea with snacks and drinks that we brought along with bags of goodies containing small gifts. We also worked on some puzzles together, played some games, and even sang karaoke with some of them!

Our team members got publicly introduced to the seniors.

What was the most rewarding part of this activity?
I was reminded that having the opportunity to personally volunteer your service to a charity can be so much more powerful and gratifying than just making a monetary donation. Our team’s visit helped bring joy and social interaction to elderly people who are wheelchair-bound or in declining health and not able to see many people besides their family members or caregivers. It was rewarding to see them participate and enjoy the activities that we planned for them and learn more about their special needs. We will never forget our afternoon with them, and we look forward to participating in more activities like this where we can help those who appreciate our care.

We taught some of the seniors how to fold some paper Christmas trees that we brought.
