Syniverse Wins Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award for Enabling First Domestic Commercial LTE Roaming Launch in the U.S.
TAMPA, Fla. – May 26, 2015 – Syniverse has been recognized with a Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Award for launching the first domestic LTE roaming service in the U.S., in collaboration with GCI, Alaska’s largest telecom company, and a Tier 1 operator. The award, presented for the category of consumer service innovation, recognized Syniverse’s IPX Network, Diameter Signaling Service, and Reach Management products, and marks another step in Syniverse’s leadership in advancing the industry toward LTE.
The GTB Innovation Awards recognize the most innovative projects in the telecommunication industry in five categories: fixed network infrastructure innovation, wireless network infrastructure innovation, wholesale service innovation, business service innovation, and consumer service innovation. This win marked Syniverse’s eighth consecutive year being named a winner at the awards.
For the category of consumer service innovation, Syniverse was recognized for its part in addressing the complex challenge of implementing LTE roaming. A crucial part of this involves the deployment of an IPX network and the enablement of diameter signaling protocol, which helps manage the proper routing and delivery of diameter signaling messages to ensure seamless connectivity between different operators. In delivering these services for the two operators, Syniverse helped improve subscriber roaming experiences and significantly increased subscriber usage in the months after launching LTE roaming.
“We’re honored to be selected for a GTB Innovation Award with GCI and to expand on a successful relationship,” said Mary Clark, Chief Marketing Officer, Syniverse. “We look forward to using our long history in LTE implementation to deliver the highest level of LTE service possible to our customers through our IPX network, which now connects approximately half of the world’s mobile operators that have launched commercial LTE networks and nearly all operators that have launched LTE roaming.”
The Syniverse IPX Network Solution provides a carrier-grade connection to the company’s all-IP network that currently serves nearly 800 roaming routes. Syniverse’s IPX reaches more than 200 operators in 44 countries, including 104 direct connections. The solution offers one-stop access to Syniverse’s full suite of mobile solutions and serves as a core component of the company’s LTE solution portfolio, which also includes Syniverse’s Diameter Signaling Service. This service provides a comprehensive solution for managing the complexities of the Diameter signaling protocol by simplifying the process for an operator to add bandwidth to an IPX connection in preparation for periods of increased usage. Syniverse’s Reach Management brings together these services in an end-to-end managed service that allows operators to hand off a large part of their day-to-day roaming operations to Syniverse.
"As LTE becomes the new standard, mobile users increasingly expect access to the same high-speed experiences all the time, wherever they are,” said Clark. “Our work with GCI and has been an important step in ensuring we deliver on these expectations, enabling us to use our IPX network as a cornerstone in delivering the bandwidth versatility for mobile users to enjoy a seamless, trouble-free experience anytime, anywhere.”
The GTB Innovation Award underscores Syniverse’s latest accomplishments and position as an LTE leader. In February, Syniverse contributed to a major industry milestone by enabling a U.S. operator and a Japanese operator to implement the world’s first transoceanic VoLTE ( Voice over Long Term Evolution) roaming call. In addition, Syniverse’s LTE achievements have recently included the preparation of LTE roaming for the World Cup tournament in Brazil; and the completion of its acquisition of Aicent, which expanded Syniverse’s network to enable direct reach to half of the global mobile population.
