Syniverse Participates in Environmental Defense Fund Climate Corps for Third Consecutive Year
TAMPA, Fla. – July 1, 2014 – Continuing its commitment to improve environmental sustainability, Syniverse is participating in the Environmental Defense Fund’s (EDF) Climate Corps 2014 program along with more than 100 top companies, cities and universities. The 2014 program marks Syniverse’s third consecutive year of participation.
EDF Climate Corps is a summer fellowship program that places specially trained master’s degree students with select organizations to build business cases for energy efficiency. For 10 weeks, Syniverse is hosting an EDF Climate Corps summer fellow who will identify and analyze energy-efficiency strategies the company can use to implement more eco-friendly business practices at its offices and data centers worldwide.
“Sustainability is rapidly moving from a business showpiece to a business requirement, and the EDF Climate Corps program offers an unparalleled opportunity to help reduce our carbon footprint,” said Jeff Callis, Vice President, Operations and Support, Mobile Transaction Services, Syniverse. “We look forward to engaging with EDF again and gaining best practices firsthand from this world-leading organization.”
EDF Climate Corps fellow Meaghan Krohn is working with Syniverse to provide specific expertise in addressing the company’s most critical carbon-reduction priorities. Krohn was selected by EDF to participate in Climate Corps based on her academic background and professional experience, which includes a Master of Science in environmental policy and regulation from the London School of Economics and environmental internships at Context America and the Global Action Plan. She is working at Syniverse’s global headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
“We welcome Meaghan’s expert recommendations as we continue to identify opportunities to further reduce our carbon footprint,” Callis said. “Our past EDF Climate Corps fellows have helped us make important progress in areas like workspace consolidation, data center virtualization, and cooling and lighting efficiency.”
Syniverse’s participation in EDF Climate Corps is one of several steps in the company’s commitment to help preserve the communities in which its customers and employees live and work. Since 2010, Syniverse has submitted a report to the Carbon Disclosure Project and established 10 overarching carbon-reduction goals to be completed by 2015 to measure progress in such areas as greenhouse gas emissions, electricity usage and paper waste. Syniverse is also a participant in Tampa Electric’s Renewable Energy credit purchasing program, a way for businesses to show their commitment to supporting clean-energy efforts by purchasing “blocks” of renewable energy. Moreover, last year, Syniverse was recognized for its clean-energy efforts with a Sustainability Award by Earth Charter US.
